2022 Palm classic哈佛辩论赛

Congratulations again to everyone on another incredible weekend at Harvard! As always, your teamwork was the story of the tournament. Watching you help each other prep, scout rounds, research blocks, and otherwise provide encouragement even if you were out of the tournament personally is the “root cause” of our success and the reason we saw an incredible 70% of our team come home with a trophy this weekend. Stellar work, everyone! We win as a team.

Yesterday’s big story was a near undefeated run by Annie and Bonnie, who lost a close 2-1 decision in finals to win Second Place out of a staggering 283 teams! They were almost joined in finals by an equally undefeated Jason and Ken, who went out in semis to the eventual champion — and came home with the Third Speaker (Jason) and Fifth Speaker (Ken) awards. An additionally huge congrats to Arianna and Yoll, who set the new Harvard record for a team from China for finishing in the top 8, as well as to Vivian and Xiao Bo for finishing in the top 16, and Owen and Nikki for finishing in the top 32!

In Varsity, we came home with three more TOC Silver Bids, as Andrew & Johnson, Grace & Justin, and Joseph & Rina all finished in the top 32 in the country, and Rina finished as the tournament’s Sixth Speaker and Joseph Seventh!

JV had an absolute wave of trophies, with Adam & Aiden, Ardelle & Grace, Dasnoor & Simrit, and Jaslynn & Mia all finishing in the top 32, and Aaliyah & Jeanette, Claire & Henry, Jack W and Raymond, and Max & Roy all in the top 64. Mia also came home with her second consecutive speaker award, finishing fourth out of 350 speakers. The Novice squad was equally impressive, with Nathan & Sophia and Steven & Rebecca finishing in the top 32 and Amanda & Bonnie, Reine & Sophie, and Ivan & Wayne all bringing home trophies for the top 64!

For those of you who just missed the break this weekend, know that you did an outstanding job as well. There were a lot of close rounds and sometimes it all comes down to which judge is sitting in the back of the room. As long as you just keep learning and giving it your best, I’m positive your shot will come soon!

Here are the full results for the weekend. I’ve included speaker awards through the top 50 as well. At a tournament as massive as Harvard, top 50 is an achievement in itself. Again, hats off on a wonderful weekend!
