2024 UBC HST Spring

This exciting weekend, the VDA debate team achieved remarkable success at the UBC Spring High School Debate Tournament. Our students soared through the sea of debate, earning numerous honors! This year, the Novice division featured a major change with the introduction of the BP (British Parliament) debate format, which is more complex than the previous CNDF or Worlds styles. Despite the challenge, our students rose to the occasion and showcased their impressive skills. In the Novice division, Owen advanced to the finals, and Jihan emerged as one of the top speakers with outstanding debating skills.

We are immensely proud of all our students’ achievements! At this special moment, we want to thank everyone who supported us—coaches for their dedicated guidance and parents for their selfless support. As the saying goes, “Perseverance reveals true excellence; through shared challenges, we achieve brilliance.” As we move forward, let us continue to work together and write more glorious chapters!

In the Senior division, our team also achieved a series of remarkable victories. Shine, Maggie, Annie, and Jerry received Best Speaker Awards, demonstrating their exceptional presence on the debate stage. The team of Matthew and Jolon made it to the semifinals, earning countless applause for VDA.

In the highest difficulty division, congratulations to Maggie and Jerry for becoming Finalists! Particularly noteworthy is Annie, who for the second consecutive year claimed the championship trophy and brought it home.
