VDA Welcomes Bobo Wong as Director of Debate

Vancouver Debate Academy (VDA) is pleased to officially announce the appointment of Bobo Wong as VDA’s Director of Debate.

For VDA, this appointment carries special meaning. Bobo has been part of VDA for more than a decade, growing from a student into one of our most accomplished and experienced coaches. Her appointment not only marks a new chapter for VDA, but also continues a journey that began in a VDA classroom.

Bobo first joined VDA as a student in late 2016. In Grade 10, she began serving as a Teaching Assistant, using her experience to support younger students. In her first year of university, she became one of the youngest coaches on the VDA team. Since then, she has taken on many different roles and responsibilities at VDA, growing alongside the organization while contributing to the development of our programs and community.

Over the years, Bobo has turned her passion for debate into a commitment to developing outstanding students, building strong programs, and mentoring young debaters. She has coached at Crofton House School, home to one of Canada’s strongest school debate programs, helping students succeed at the highest levels of competitive debate.

Representing VDA, Bobo has also made her mark on the international debate stage. She has served on the coaching panels of three national-team campaigns across two countries: Team Armenia in 2024 and 2025, and Team Bangladesh in 2026.

As VDA’s Director of Debate, Bobo will continue to help lead the development of VDA’s debate programs, with a focus on curriculum development, coach mentorship, student training, and creating more opportunities for debaters at every level to grow and compete.

Bobo’s appointment is a continuation of the debate journey she began at VDA ten years ago—from student, to Teaching Assistant, to coach, and now to a member of VDA’s leadership team. Her understanding of VDA’s programs and community comes from firsthand experience: she has grown alongside this community and will continue helping us build an even stronger debate community for the many young students who come next.

Bobo’s journey also reflects one of VDA’s core beliefs:

A truly strong educational community is built on a solid foundation. The strongest programs are not created overnight. They are built by teams of people who share the same values, are willing to contribute to their community, and remain committed to working hard and growing together. From student to Director of Debate, Bobo’s journey embodies this belief.

We are thrilled to welcome Bobo into this new leadership role and look forward to beginning VDA’s next chapter together.
