2025 BC Provincials

Kicking off the season with momentum, VDA debaters delivered outstanding performances last weekend at BC Provincials, highlighted by double Top Speaker in both Junior and Senior divisions. This remarkable achievement marked an inspiring start to the academic year and showcased the talent, dedication, and teamwork of our students and coaches.

In the Junior division, Luella Zhang was named Top Speaker, while Sylvia Xie finished as the 9th Speaker and also led her team to a 6th Place Team finish.

In the Senior division, Maggie Lu took home the title of Top Speaker, while Marek Cai placed as the 13th Speaker. Maggie also led the Top Breaking Team, advancing all the way to the Final Round. Marek’s team finished 9th Overall, while the team of Norah Liu and Crystal Su captured an 11th Place Team finish.

This historic “double crown” result demonstrates not only the individual excellence of our debaters but also their remarkable spirit of collaboration and resilience. Through each round, they uplifted and challenged one another, stayed positive in their rare defeats, and remained focused through their many victories. Even with win after win, our students reflected on their performances with humility and determination to keep improving.

We are incredibly proud of every VDA student who competed. Their passion, hard work, and commitment to growth turned this weekend into one of the most memorable and successful moments in our academy’s history.
