Mechanism
General Definition: The process or tool used to make something happen. See also “Link“.

- World Schools Debate: In WSD, a mechanism is a proposition of policy made by side Proposition to make clearer the implementation strategy for a given motion. See also “Modelling“. Mechanism may also be referred to as the part of an argument that connects the analysis to the impact.
- British Parliamentary: In BP, a mechanism is part of an argument that connects analysis with a given impact. More generally, mechanisms are a process or tool used to make something (e.g. an impact) happen. Ideally, mechanisms should should explain why an impact is robust (i.e. persistent, not easily undone, self-reinforcing, etc.)
- Canadian National Debate Format: In CNDF, a mechanism is part of an argument that connects analysis with a given impact. More generally, mechanisms are a process or tool used to make something (e.g. an impact) happen.
